David Warner

Profile:

David Warner had a remarkable introduction to international cricket, making a striking 89 off 43 balls in a T20l against South Africa without any prior First-Class experience. Following this T20 success, he debuted in ODIs with an aggressive 69 against the same opponents in Hobart. Despite initial success, Warner faced a dip in form, leading to his temporary exclusion from the side. His impactful performances continued in T20s, notably during Australia's 2009 T20 WC campaign.

As opportunities arose in the Australian Test squad, Warner, already an ODI regular, made his Test debut in 2011. After a modest start, he carved a career-defining century in Hobart and displayed his aggressive prowess with a stunning 180 against India at WACA. Warner's aggressive style persisted as he scored an impressive 119 against South Africa in 2012.

In 2013, Warner faced disciplinary issues, leading to his suspension from the team and a hefty fine for an altercation with Joe Root. Despite these setbacks, Warner excelled in the Ashes series, emerging as the highest run-scorer. He continued his success against South Africa, becoming the Man of the Series.

Warner maintained his form across formats, including a century in the UAE tour and three centuries against India in the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He played a crucial role in Australia's 2015 World Cup triumph, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer.

In the 2018 South Africa tour, Warner was embroiled in the ball-tampering scandal, resulting in a one-year ban. Despite the setbacks, he returned stronger, evidenced by his exceptional performance in the 2019 IPL. Warner continued to excel in ODIs, contributing significantly to Australia's 2019 World Cup campaign.

His Test drought ended with a triple century against Pakistan in 2019, and he became the quickest Australian to reach 5000 ODI runs. Warner's stellar performances extended to T20Is, where he scored his maiden T20I hundred against Sri Lanka.

In the 2021 T20 WC, Warner played a pivotal role in Australia's victory, earning the Player of the Tournament award. However, his form wavered in the 2022 T20 WC. Despite a double-century against South Africa in the 2022 Boxing Day Test, Warner struggled with consistency on overseas tours.

Amid scrutiny, Warner secured a spot in Australia's 2023 World Cup squad. In the IPL, he established himself as the most successful overseas batsman, representing various franchises. His leadership and consistent performances, particularly with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, contributed to his success.

Warner's IPL journey saw highs, including Orange Cap wins and leading SRH to a title in 2016. However, controversies, such as his 2018 suspension, marked his IPL career. Despite being dropped in 2021, Warner made a comeback with the Delhi Capitals in 2022, captaining the side in 2023 due to Rishabh Pant's absence.
